Daily Devotional – Time is Ticking

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Ephesians 5: 8-20. The older I get, the more aware of my frailty I become. Exercising takes that much longer to recover from, and all the aches and pains multiply every day. I too am acutely aware that I’m running out of time to do the will of God!

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

fall scents for your home

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,16 making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The bible calls us to live wisely. Wisdom is understanding the will of God. This scripture from Ephesians echoes that of Proverbs 2: 5 “then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

There is no time any longer for me to wonder and consider the thoughts and concerns of others. I may find myself at the feet of God, answering for my decisions and actions, sooner than I planned. We are called by Paul to be light if we are light. To be set apart from the world for our Lord and King.

Let us all strive to put our efforts towards activities that will bring long term results, with consequences that impact eternity.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

You have called me to love my neighbors. You have called me to serve those around me as you did in your example on earth. Give me the love to lay my life down for my friends. May I see how your love brings change not only in me but those around me. May you be glorified and exalted with the rest of my life for eternity.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
