Daily Devotional – The Savior Withstood the Insults

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 53:7-11. All the insults and accusations didn’t move Jesus to react and defend Himself. Jesus stood firm on the plan of the Father, surrendering Himself to His creation like a lamb.

“He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
    and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
    so he did not open his mouth.
By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken away.
    Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
    for the transgression of my people he was punished.[b]
He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
    and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
    nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
    and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
    and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
11 After he has suffered,
    he will see the light of life[d] and be satisfied[e];
by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant will justify many,
    and he will bear their iniquities.”

The suffering bore a greater reward!

It is all too easy to sin and justify ourselves. We retaliate and defend ourselves when accusations and threats are thrown our way. When justifying ourselves and our actions, we are sinning. Right or wrong, the act of justification is a selfish and prideful reaction.

Jesus had confidence in the situation because of who was truly in control. Jesus understood that He stood before the accusers so that He could sacrifice Himself. Choosing to stand there, He did not have to!

Jesus came to earth with the purpose of dying on the cross. The mission course was set and He followed it faithfully and peacefully. Let us consider how we follow God and His plans in our lives. Sometimes I kick and scream a little, how about you?

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that Jesus was the perfect example. He demonstrated what true faith and trust look like. Give me Your strength and faith today to stand as Jesus did!

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
