Daily Devotional – Sacrificed but Not Broken

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Numbers 9:9-14. The soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus, they saw that He was dead already, so they didn’t break His legs.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, 10 “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate the Lord’s Passover, 11 but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations. 13 But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

14 “‘A foreigner residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

The Lamb of God gave it all!

The Old Testament gave us a tremendous amount of clues and perspective. The new covenant that Jesus brought in fulfilled the Old Testament law while superseding the requirements. Pure and blameless, Jesus surrendered without a broken bone.

All Jews are called to participate in the festivals and regulations of Passover. Under the new covenant established by the blood of Jesus, all the world falls under the requirements and statutes of the Kingdom of God.

Let us remember how Jesus laid His life down. He did not go to the cross kicking and screaming but rather submissive to His Father’s will. Following the example of Jesus, we can prove our faith in our submission to God.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that Jesus laid down His heavenly comforts for the challenges and darkness of this earth. Without His sacrifice, I would not have anything. Help me today to live under His blood and example.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
