Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalms 127: 1 -5. Children are a blessing from God! In many ways, God blesses us through our children, and I am so grateful for their blessing to me. God has taught me so much through my relationship with my children.
“Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to[a] those he loves.
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.”

I recall the first time that I held my eldest child, I looked into their eyes and was mesmerized. I couldn’t believe that I was entrusted with this amazing bundle. Mostly, I was overcome with love and joy. This certainly hit me right between the eyes.
I still look into my children’s eyes and am overwhelmed with love for them. Looking at all the challenges that they have gone through, I want to protect them for all of the ones that lie before them. I know that they are God’s children first and that He will watch over them. I can trust in God and have confidence that my shortcomings will not dictate the future before my children.
Most of all, God has taught me so much about Himself through my relationship as a parent. I have stood in awe at God our creator, marveled at His beautiful creation, and realized how involved He is in every situation. I am thankful to God for the blessing that my children are to me, but also for the blessing of teaching me more about who He is.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, God, for blessing my family with our children and grandchildren. They certainly are a blessing from You. Help me to be the parent and grandparent that can train them up in your ways and bring glory and honor to You for generations to come!
