Daily Devotional – Strengthen Yourself in God

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Samuel 30: 3-8. We are all facing confusing and challenging times right now. The difference between God’s church and the rest of the world is the hope and strength that is available to us through Jesus!

When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. David’s two wives had been captured—Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelek, “Bring me the ephod.” Abiathar brought it to him, and David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?”

“Pursue them,” he answered. “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”

Finding strength in God

I love the wording in this scripture. David was facing his closest friends and followers attempt to kill him. It is one thing having our enemies conspiring to kill us, but when our followers are crying for our blood, that is something else. “But David found strength in the Lord his God.”

This week we plan to assist you to strengthen your self in God!

A famous saying is how “it was the straw that broke the donkey’s back”. When we find ourselves hitting rock bottom, it is most commonly a seemingly insignificant event or thing. It is the build-up of continuous minimally impactful setbacks or disappointments that mount.

To strengthen ourselves in God, we need to take a step out. Step out of the situation as David did and focus on God. As you focus on God today, hand over anything that you holding onto. No matter how insignificant it may appear, hand it over to Jesus because He cares for you. No matter what is facing you, step away from it and lift your eyes toward your Father. Let Him alone take everything and charge your battery today!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you came and took the heaviest burden of all from me. You have reminded me today to release all the other burdens that plague my mind and soul, and I do that right now. Strengthen me with your spirit today and hold me up by Your might.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
