Daily Devotional – Stand Firm with Wisdom

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Ephesians 4:7-16. It is easy to become overwhelmed and make poor decisions that have long-term consequences. It is wise to remain defiant in the circumstances, standing on the words and wisdom of God.

“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it[a] says:

“When he ascended on high,
    he took many captives
and gave gifts to his people.”[b]

fall scents for your home

(What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions[c]? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

Wisdom stems from our fear of God

When we face challenges and storms in our lives, we tend to be more reactive. Reacting to the circumstances, putting out fires, we focus on resolving an immediate solution that gives us a reprieve. While the fires and issues may be resolved temporarily, at what cost?

Wisdom allows us the ability to take a step back and change a perspective. It also comes from experiencing the highs and lows of life. Comparing the present situation to the previous experiences gives us the wisdom to make a decision.

When we saw the hand of God intervene previously in our lives, we can apply our faith in His saving actions again. We can stand firm in the knowledge that God is willing and able to save us in all situations.

Let us learn to wisely trust Jesus in every situation. Rather than applying our human wisdom and thoughts, we should be patiently waiting on our Father’s timing.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

I have seen Your hand move in my life before and need not worry or fear in any situation. You have saved me and proven You love me on the cross! I will stand firm today upon Your wisdom and experience.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
