Daily Devotional – Stand Firm in Freedom

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Galatians 5:1-10. Jesus paid for our freedom on the cross. The curtain that hung between God’s presence and the burdens of this world was torn in two, offering us freedom

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.”

Why would you give up freedom for the chains?

I had made a decision some time ago that I will never order a steak when we eat out at a restaurant. Having mastered the art of grilling steak over charcoal, I have tasted the quality and delicious steak that I grill myself. I have just decided that it is not worth the disappointment to order a steak cooked by someone else.

Having tasted freedom and salvation I certainly do not want to be held down by burdens and sins again. Paul encourages us to stand firm in the joy of freedom. Fight against the sins that so easily enter our lives and grow to overtake every part.

While we so often celebrate those that have paid the price for the freedoms experienced in our country, let us celebrate wearily. It is too easy to forget what the life of burdens and entrapment is like to live. Let us continue to focus on and be grateful for the freedom that we have received through Jesus!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you for sending Jesus to die and pay the ransom of my freedom. I will not mock His sacrifice by giving up so easily on my freedom. I will celebrate it and worship the name above every other name forever!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
