Daily Devotional – Spiritual Legacy

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 112: 1-10. We often talk about “leaving a legacy” as if it were solely the total of the material belongings we will leave our children.

“Praise the Lord.[b] Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. Their children will be mighty in the land;     the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous. Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice. Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.

They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn[c] will be lifted high in honor. 10 The wicked will see and be vexed, they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.”

Who receives the inheritance?

Please recognize that it is so much more, and includes the positive influence that we have on our family, friends, and others around us, which could have an impact for generations.

In order to leave any form of legacy, it must first be built, and then lived out in daily life. The same is true of our spiritual legacy. Building a spiritual legacy begins inside of us, and rests on the foundation of the eternal security resulting from a personal relationship with Jesus, and acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior. Live out your faith and your children and grandchildren will be forever impacted by your legacy in their lives. Apostle Paul effected his protégé’ Timothy and wrote these words:

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. II Timothy 4:6-8
