Daily Devotional – If We Seek, We Will Find

daily edvotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 15:1-10. Understanding the true value of our salvation is so important to the effort and joy that we associate with the knowledge of salvation and grace. Jesus came to the earth to save those in need of a doctor.

“Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

The Parable of the Lost Coin

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

The self-righteous don’t value grace!

The Pharisees stood in judgment of Jesus and His grace. They had spent their lives studying the laws and scriptures and followed every instruction in total obedience. They never stopped to consider whether they truly were searching God or just the sense of righteousness.

God offers us grace and unmerited favor. Salvation is offered for those who honestly seek and search for God without any conditions. Jesus came to earth to make the way clear for each and everyone to find God, so long as they earnestly search for Him.

Let us follow the example of the woman who diligently searched for her treasure. Finding God and receiving His grace comes with no strings attached, but we need to seek Him. There is nothing hindering us but ourselves. Let us seek God and celebrate when we find the treasure that is greater than anything else.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father, that You have removed all obstacles to me finding You, and the sacrifice for Jesus. I commit to searching and seeking after You with discipline and faithfulness.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
