Daily Devotional – Sacrificed for Our Forgiveness

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Numbers 15: 25-29. The old covenant had the priest representing us before God in His temple. Now we have Jesus going before us into the Holy of Holies on our behalf!

The priest is to make atonement for the whole Israelite community, and they will be forgiven, for it was not intentional and they have presented to the Lord for their wrong a food offering and a sin offering. 26 The whole Israelite community and the foreigners residing among them will be forgiven, because all the people were involved in the unintentional wrong.

27 “‘But if just one person sins unintentionally, that person must bring a year-old female goat for a sin offering. 28 The priest is to make atonement before the Lord for the one who erred by sinning unintentionally, and when atonement has been made, that person will be forgiven. 29 One and the same law applies to everyone who sins unintentionally, whether a native-born Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.

Jesus Atoning of our behalf

Jesus’ death tore the veil in the temple, opening the door and access for us. He took on the sins of the world as our priest and went to the cross. In the same way that the priest of the old covenant and testament went before God with the sins of the Israelites.

The old covenant had the sinner bringing various offerings to be placed on the altar. The sin had a price and you bought your atonement with the price fulfilled.

Jesus, our priest under the new covenant placed Himself on the covenant. Unlike the old covenant priest that represented us with our sacrifice, our new covenant priest places Himself in our place. Jesus has taken upon Himself our sins. He is our atonement and His value covers any sin that we may be seeking forgiveness for.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for Your death on the cross Jesus. You took our sins upon Yourself on the cross. Thank you for being our priest and representing us before the Father. Help me to understand your sacrifice and value it more today! Thank you for being our priest!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
