Daily Devotional – Repent With a Broken Heart

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Corinthians 7:8-13. Repentance leads to salvation but starts with the conscious decision to change your actions. Unlike a dog returning to its vomit, those that are truly sorry will change.

“Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it—I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while— yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 11 See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

12 So even though I wrote to you, it was neither on account of the one who did the wrong nor on account of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are. 13 By all this we are encouraged.”

Do you willingly return to your life of sin?

The bible has laid out and stipulated the parameters of repentance. In order for us to repent, we need to come to our senses. Looking around with eyes wide open, you see the sin and become ashamed of what you see that you have done.

Asking for forgiveness is not merely enough. When God looks upon you, will He see an honest and heartfelt cry out for grace and mercy? Will you approach the throne of the Almighty, truly sorrowful for the sin and actions that are detestable to God?

Let us not fool ourselves about our sin and how we need to flee from these actions and thoughts. Let us awaken to the sins that surround us and truthfully repent from our lives of selfishness.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You will embrace and comfort those that seek You. You will extend grace to us that cry out for Your mercy. Today I turn toward You and ask that You will save me from all that I repent from.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
