Daily Devotional – Pillar 7 – Right and Wrong?

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Deuteronomy 30:15-20. There are laws like gravity in play in our world. Then there are also laws about right and wrong. Who has said what is the wrong thing to do, and how does an evolving society move the target as to what is acceptable?

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

<

19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

Without God’s Truth, People look for a truth that is convenient

“When you say that there’s too much evil in this world you assume there’s good. When you assume that there’s good, you assume there’s such a thing as a moral law on the basis of which to differentiate between good and evil.” Ravi Zacharias

Did your government create the laws that you accept as moral law? Did God create within our souls the knowledge of good and evil, and a willing submissive follow would more clearly understand the value of good?

Are you good? Jesus said clearly stated that no one would have the ability to overcome sin, living a life worthy of buying their salvation. So knowing the difference between good and evil may not be enough for us to do good.

When out on the water, a sailor keeps their eyes on the landmark that they are using as their center point. It is too easy surrounded by water to lose complete direction and wander. A society that ignores the truth and laws that God has placed within our souls will surely wander. As they wander, who knows what they will eventually accept as normal!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for coming to point the way. You have given us a perfect example of good to follow. Lead and guide me by Your Holy Spirit on the path of good so that my life can bring glory and honor to You and Your kingdom.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
