Daily Devotional – With One Heart and Purpose

daily edvotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Acts 4:32-37. A tug-o-war team pulling in sync and the same direction will out pull a team disjointed. Success is not about the individual strengths and abilities, but the cumulative effort of a team.

“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.”

There is power in the whole body!

I remember a time in the church when I was younger where members of the church were given the opportunity to take the microphone. Each person would come to the front and speak to the church of what God had done, or was busy doing in their lives. They stood there and testified to the good works of God in their life.

As I look back, I don’t recall when or why the church stopped this activity. Not only was it a great opportunity to bring glory to God, but it gave the church the opportunity to come together.

The body of Christ needs to be vulnerable and truthful with each other. One of the reasons that we have shied away from this behavior is because we fear being judged and ridiculed. The body can not work in unison and pull each other in the same direction without the trust and love for each other. May we as individuals join together to better support and love each other in the direction of heaven!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

You have placed us within Your body for a reason. Bind us together by Your Holy Spirit so that we can stand firm as Your church for Your glory! I give myself over to You and Your workings so that You can mold us, Your church together.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
