Daily Devotional – Miracles of the New Testament 2

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 4:46-53. The miracles of the New Testament all point to one critical theme of the Bible. God takes pity on His creation and shows His compassion to heal and perform miracles.

“Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.

48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”

The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”

53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.”

Do we believe that God’s got our back?

Jesus had just rebuked the crowds that just hungered the signs and wonders and not Him. Their faith was dependent on seeing the proof before trusting and believing in God and His purposes.

The royal official had no reason to trust and believe in Jesus. He had heard through the vines that the teacher from Galilee was performing miracles. As a roman citizen, the royal official had no background in the law of God. He merely put his faith in what he had heard.

Let us remember the central theme of the Bible and God’s story. God loves us so much that He would not sacrifice anything to earn the opportunity to love and engage with us, His creation.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You have loved us from our mother’s womb. You created us with the vision and desire to have us live among You and Your kingdom. I remember this today and in faith take on today for Your glory.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
