Daily Devotional – Miracles of the New Testament 1

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 23:4-12. Having recently gone through some of the Old Testament miracles, it is now time for some of the New Testament miracles. We are going to see how the broken heart of God was moved to intercede in situations and share love and hope.

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

The first miracle was the birth of our savior

God needed to walk among us like He had done so with Adam and Eve. The heart of God was and always has been to be with His creation. The only way to take on flesh was to be born and walk the earth from the womb of a woman.

What a miracle that the Holy Spirit would blend with a woman to create the walking savior. The birth was the culmination of years and years of prophecy and planning. The Father’s planning spanned to the very beginning. The birth of Jesus was the miracle that would pave the way for all the miracles that we will discuss.

While we celebrate the birth of Jesus every year during Christmas, let us focus today on the miracle of His birth. Marvel and thank God for His miracle of life made possible because of Jesus’ birth.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You planned our salvation and redemption from the very beginning. Jesus was always the answer and plan and what a great miracle it was when Jesus was born.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
