Daily Devotional – Miracles of the Bible 13

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Kings 13:1-5. We need to be cautious and recall who God is. Our Father is the only living God who reigns as Lord over all living creatures no matter how big or small.

“By the word of the Lord a man of God came from Judah to Bethel, as Jeroboam was standing by the altar to make an offering. By the word of the Lord he cried out against the altar: “Altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: ‘A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.’” That same day the man of God gave a sign: “This is the sign the Lord has declared: The altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out.”

When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, he stretched out his hand from the altar and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward the man shriveled up, so that he could not pull it back. Also, the altar was split apart and its ashes poured out according to the sign given by the man of God by the word of the Lord.”

My brains are not God-sized!

You can all be grateful that I am not god. I do not possess the God-sized brains, heart, and power. I am nothing without the King of kings. In my sin, I would surely be unwise and make very poor decisions impacting all of creation. What is crazy is that because of my sin, I sometimes think that I would make the best god!

As we reverently consider who God is and all that He is, let us not draw nearer too casually. While God has called us, His children, to His throne, we need to recall whom we are talking to and coming before. God is powerful enough to miraculously intervene into our physical world.

Let us remember that our Father loves us and desires that we all be saved by Him and His grace. We can come into His presence with thanksgiving and joy because God is for us and not against us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are the lover of my soul. You love me so much that You sent Jesus to die on my behalf. Thank you for all that You have done in my life, and I pray that You be glorified today!

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
