Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Philippians 4: 4-9. We all think that a life of peace without strife would be ideal. We long for and question God when we face an uneasy situation or have to tackle a nagging issue. God never promised a life of pure peace on this earth.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

We live in a broken and sinful world and will never see eye to eye with everyone. This will often cause a level of discomfort. We may even find ourselves in a position where someone has wronged us. They have taken advantage of and abused your trust, love, and efforts. No matter how much you attempt to live a life of zen and equilibrium, people around you will pop your bubble so to speak.

We are called by God to be peacemakers. People that restore peace and not necessarily just keep the peace. How can we live for what we believe if we are not willing to stand up and be counted? However, taking a position on anything will cause others to take offense, feel offended, or not agree with you. From their level of frustration and bruised feelings will come their retaliation. So we better be ready to restore peace if we going to rightfully stand for God.

When we stand for God and do what is right in His eyes, His peace will guard us. It will guard us against second-guessing, the accusations and threats, and the discontention experienced. From our peace and strength, we can reach out and lift others up. We do this by following Paul’s words, doing “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable”

Forgive those around you as you have been forgiven. No matter their infringement. Forgive and seek peace!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have given us such a great example of love. You loved us as you washed the disciple’s feet, and you loved us as You hung on the cross. Strengthen me as I submit myself to those around me that lead and love me.
