Daily Devotional – Love is Patient

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Corinthians 13: 1-4. Love is what motivated God to send Jesus to earth. To die and redeem His creation. When love motivates you, there is no limit to what will be achieved, not just on this earth, but in eternity too!

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”

I find it interesting that the first characteristic of love mentioned in patience. The more that I think about it, I totally understand why. Patience sets the foundation for everything else. Patience allows us to persevere and take the time for God to work. In the same way, as it takes years for trees to grow, God brings all things together at the right time. Sometimes the timing of God requires some patience!

We also need to be patient with others. So many times our in-patient choices are what cause damage and hurt to our loved ones. We sometimes act rashly or force our agenda and our timing only to look back and see the pain caused.

Love is patient! We need to love our family, friends, and enemies with patience.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you continue to treat us with patience. Thank you that Your patience holds off our judgment. Your patience has allowed the time for us to return to You and repent. Help me today by Your spirit to patiently love those around me, glorified and loved by us all!

In Jesus name
Amen
