Daily Devotional – Love Does Not Boast With Pride

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 94: 1-11. Evildoers are full of boasting! Their arrogant words are counter to the words of love, peace, kindness, and gentleness.

The Lord is a God who avenges.
    O God who avenges, shine forth.
Rise up, Judge of the earth;
    pay back to the proud what they deserve.
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?

They pour out arrogant words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.
They crush your people, Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.
They slay the widow and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.
They say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob takes no notice.”

Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?
10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;
    he knows that they are futile.

The wicked and evildoers may see the immediate results for their trickery and deceitfulness. The success will breed pride and arrogance. The God-fearing people, by contrast, acknowledge their dependence on God humbly. Their submission to God will develop wisdom and understanding.

The heart of those that are boastful and proud is full of hatred and oppression. They take what they want, feeling entitled to what they have. After all, they took what they have from others. With the delayed justice, they shake their fists haughtily in God’s face. They do this as though the battle is done and over.

God will have the final say! Be wary of a proud and boastful heart. It speaks of a life not trusting in God with faith. Rather honor God and do follow His ways, He sees all the plans and doings of man. Nothing slips passed his view!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am glad that I can place my trust and faith in You. I am glad that you see all the comings and goings of men. You see past the outer layer and see the hearts and their contemplation. I and my house will follow in Your ways and seek Your Kingdom and glory. We will be unswayed by the temporary successes of others that achieve them deceitfully.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
