Daily Devotional – Love Is What Sets Us Apart

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 22: 29-40. Jesus often fielded questions by the religious leaders and others that were inquisitive. The question varied, as they do today. Many people that I speak to have many questions about life and the meaning of it all.

“Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[b]? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

The Greatest Commandment

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

I too have many unanswered questions about life and all that it means. I question why I was created? How does it all work? What is the pint to it all? I constantly think to myself about my day of entering heaven, the questions that I will finally get to be answered. Then I remember that they won’t be that important anymore. I will be in the presence of the Almighty God, and only that will matter!

I have always followed the mantra of “KISS”, an acronym for “Keep It Simple S…” Jesus took the 10 commandments and simplified it into 2. It is always so much easier to do fewer things and stay on top of them.

Everyone will know that you are His

As we follow the 2 main commandments directed by Jesus, “All the Law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments.” Jesus also shared in John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” In the year 2020, I feel that we have forgotten what it means to actually love those that are part of the Body of Christ!

Today, consider someone that you can demonstrate love to. Think about how you can serve them and make their day brighter!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you, Jesus, for your demonstration of love towards us. Thank you for Your reminder about the importance of love for one another too. Show me today those around me that I can be more loving to and demonstrate through servanthood the love that You have given to me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
