Daily Devotional – Love Drives Out Fear

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 John 4: 13-21. When you start to feel fear welling up within you, you need to quickly evaluate your thoughts and attitudes. God’s perfect love offers mercy, grace, and forgiveness.

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

Fear has to do with punishment

With all going on around us, it is very easy to become fearful. Fear creates a spiral of hopelessness and depression. Fear can so easily be a tightening grip that will suffocate life from us. What is the greatest weapon that we can come against fear with?

Love! In the same way that light dispels darkness, true love dissolves the darkness of fear. When we abide in God and Jesus, we take on His love. God’s love flows through our veins and creates fruit visible for those around us. If we are experiencing fear, we need to attach ourselves again to God and have Him, and His love flow over and through us.

Let it not be said of us that we liars. Let our love for each other create an environment of tangible peace. Our love gives others the confidence to stand up because they know that they will not be ridiculed. Does your love for those that you see each day create a safety net for them?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You provide perfect love for us. Your perfect love has made our salvation possible and creates a platform for us to confidently live life. In Your love, I will live and share my love for everyone around me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
