Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 41: 1-3. Christians are not immune from poverty, sickness, or disease; however, God is so gracious that He gives us insight into His heart regarding these matters. Here, we are reminded that our actions have a cause and effect reaction.
“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.
2 The Lord protects and preserves them—
they are counted among the blessed in the land—
he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.
3 The Lord sustains them on their sickbed
and restores them from their bed of illness.“
God has promised those who take special care to help the needy, that He will take care to act on their behalf, in their time of need.
Two keywords in this passage that you may want to focus on our strength and sustain. Strength will help us to do what we have to do when dealing with our sickness. God considers our case and then He sends us the very things we need to get us through such a time. Sustain means to supply with the necessities or nourishment, to keep from falling or sinking, or to bear up under or support from below. How wonderful it is to know that the Lord God, Himself, promises to bear our burdens. He has promised through His Son Jesus Christ that we need not carry the load.
Next time you see someone in dire need, remember that you are in a sense, storing up your blessings as you consider the poor. There may come a day when you will reap those very treasures.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please help me to consider the poor, and those around me who are in need. May my eyes be opened to their dilemma, and give me a heart to make a difference in someone’s life when it is in my power to do so.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
