Daily Devotional – Light and Darkness Can Not Co-Exist

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Ephesians 5: 8-17. When God created the universe, Genesis 1 v 4, He separated light and darkness. He separated light that was good from the darkness. How can light and darkness co-exist? When light enters a room, it dispels the darkness.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

We were once part of the world’s darkness. We were blinded by the darkness to the darkness. Stumbling along, God entered our lives with His light. He exposed everything, and as we confessed our sins, He washed away all the darkness and gave us His light.

Paul is instructing us to have nothing to do with darkness. As children of the light, we have but one purpose to be in the light, to shine! As we shine, we will push back the darkness around us. Although we are in the darkness and surrounded by darkness, the darkness can not overtake the light! For darkness can not put out the light, it has no power to do that!

Let us not take on the qualities of darkness, but stand strong on the lampstand, shining the light upon God’s glory!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that You have filled me with Your Spirit which shines from within me like a lighthouse. I will continue to shine for You and to You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
