Daily Devotional – The Lies We Believe

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Peter 3:2-10. All around us, we see a world of facades and lies. Perception is often more real than reality to many people. But we forget that they are only lies.

“I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”

A life built on lies will crumble and fall.

Satan, the enemy of not only the Kingdom of God but each of us. Satan exists to steal, kill and destroy us. Often he may take the direct approach, but oh so often he sows lies and deception in our hearts, minds, and souls.

Challenging what truth is, satan is certainly getting his way in the general society at this time. The only way to fend off and push back on lies is the truth! We need to remind ourselves, but also those around us of the truth that we can find in God’s word.

The first truth that we need to remind ourselves of is that God is a creator. Jesus as the Son of God was there when God conceived the idea t create this world and universe. God has not only created the ever-expanding universe, but He has created you. Let us live today as one created out of love and purpose!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

So often I find myself accepting the words and lies from our enemy. As he seeks to rob me of You and Your presence in my life, I run to You, focused only on You my creator and Father. You created me to have communion with me, and I pull myself aside now to be with You and You alone!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
