Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 9:1-8. I could very easily tell you that I forgive all your sins. There isn’t much accountability because you will never know if my statement was true or not till it was too late!
“Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.”
When Jesus healed the paralyzed man He took action. Over and above extending grace to the man and his friends, Jesus met them with an action that they came looking for. Jesus did what only God could do, He forgave the sins and healed the man!
While we can forgive the transgressions and sins against us, only God the Lord and judge of all can forgive all sins. Although we so frequently seek and call on God for His provision and healing, we need to be seeking Him for forgiveness, thanking Him for His grace and mercy.
Let us take this time and opportunity to seek God. Seek His face and loving embrace. He sent Jesus in order to offer us forgiveness and so approach your Father confidently, He will surely forgive you!
Dear Father,
Thank you that You are the redeemer and forgiver of all. I come before You today completely submissive and open. Forgive me for all that I have done and help me to live a life that brings You glory.
