Daily Devotional – Do Not Tempt Me

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 1:12-18. Scripture says that God can not tempt me because God does not contain any evil in Himself. Without evil and sin within Him, God could not take on an evil act.

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”

God gives us opportunities to avoid temptation!

Overcoming the temptations and sinful desires of our flesh comes with a great reward. It is only too easy to go through life making gestures. Just because a man says that he will buy flowers for his bride, does not mean that he actually does. Following through with the action reveals the true motive and intention behind the act.

God has provided ways for us to overcome our sinful nature. He created the law to guide and protect us. The Holy Spirit is also dwelling inside of us to lead and guide us. In both situations though, it does take our desire to please our Father and a lot of determination.

Let us remember where temptations come from. If they are not from our selfish and prideful wants, then they are from satan. Stand firm against the temporary seduction in faith knowing that what is on the other side are rewards far greater than we can imagine.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are the Father of light and truth. I will hold onto You more tightly to avoid the things of this world today. Be glorified through all that I do and the earthly rewards that I can bestow on others by following You!

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
