Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Colossians 3:1-10. As we step into a life filled with abundance and light, we lay down the fleshly image. We replace this fallible and broken image with the image of our savior Jesus.
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Trading the things of this world for treasures in heaven!
All week we have been digesting that our Father has an image in His mind of us, and we have an image tainted by sin. The dissonance occurs when we truly understand who and how God sees us compared to what we feel about ourselves.
The image that we have of ourselves is dictated by sin and the perceptions of others of us. Words that were spoken many years ago or just yesterday burden our spirits and minds, weighing us down.
Our paradigm shift places greater value on the words and thoughts of God. As we focus our minds and hearts upon the things found in heaven, our priorities will be changed. Let us invest ourselves and lives into eternity and the treasures of heaven!
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
Thank you for helping me to see and understand where true treasures are held. Today as I invest myself and resources into these treasures, bring forth Your will and glory in my life.
Amen
