Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 4:4-10. As the victorious party, our enemy’s power and prowess are no match to the power and might that we have. Resist and He will flee, but we are too enticed.
“You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[c]
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
Step by step following Jesus
Do you walk each step in faith placing every breath in the trustworthy hands of God? If the last 2 years have taught me anything, it is that life is too fragile and fleeting. I used to think that I was totally in control of it all.
I found myself entertaining relationships and activities that I chose. Thinking that I was in control and strong enough to overcome the snares of this world, I flirted with what appealed to my fleshly desires.
Let us rather draw closer to our Father. He has promised us that He will always comfort those that seek His presence and counsel. As we humble ourselves, God will bestow His favor upon us.
