Daily Devotional – Herod Was Jealous

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 2: 16 -18. Jealousy makes us nasty as the saying goes. Herod’s jealousy not only for Jesus but over others had made him terribly nasty. Nasty till the point that Herod created a mass genocide, killing every Jewish male under 2 years of age.

Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

18 “A voice was heard in Ramah,
    weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
    she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”

King Herod that reigned over Bethlehem during Jesus’ birth was king Herod the Great. There are many accounts of his colossal building projects and accomplishments. Although he had achieved such great feats in the Roman empire, Herod was never settled and confident. Herod never had a sense of self-worth and value.

How do you compare to Herod? Are you one that has achieved much in this world, but struggles with knowing your true value? Jesus came to give us value, to set the crooked paths and beliefs straight. Do you react and retaliate in a nasty way?

Jesus came to overcome and conquer the life that we know. Not only to conquer but then go on to pay the ultimate price for us and to partake in His victory. Jesus paid the price for you. You are worth the sacrifice that God went through. No matter how you feel this season, and where you found yourself this past year, you are worth 1 Jesus! Now live like it!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you came and paid the price for me individually and us collectively. You have placed the value on my life, 1 Jesus and I value that. Help me today Jesus to live knowing my value, so that I don’t act out in nastiness to those around me. Rather fill me up with Your love and compassion!

In Jesus name
Amen
