Daily Devotional – The Hasty Tongue

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 12: 13-23. Do you like dealing with one of those people that always think that they know it all? They are always so quick to tell you their thoughts and opinions. Sometimes you walk away from the conversation without having the opportunity to get a word in at all!

“Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk,
and so the innocent escape trouble.

14 From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things,
and the work of their hands brings them reward.

fall scents for your home

15 The way of fools seems right to them,
but the wise listen to advice.

16 Fools show their annoyance at once,
but the prudent overlook an insult.

17 An honest witness tells the truth,
but a false witness tells lies.

18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

19 Truthful lips endure forever,
but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.

20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
but those who promote peace have joy.

21 No harm overtakes the righteous,
but the wicked have their fill of trouble.

22 The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in people who are trustworthy.

23 The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves,
but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.”

Do you wish to live a life of peace and tranquility? Achieving the nirvana state upon earth may not truly an achievable objective, however, that should never hamper your pursuit of it. God who sees it all, looks beyond the actions within our hearts. A heart of peace will be filled with joy and life. No matter the circumstance or frustrations, one who seeks peace will experience joy and good fruit.

The word of God so often speaks about how we listen as opposed to speaking. Speaking out with a hasty tongue will tend to leave you speaking out of turn or boxing yourself into predicaments. We may think that this way of doing things is correct and the path to obtaining what you wish for. In so many ways, our ways are not that of God and He instructs us through His word.

God speaks of keeping our knowledge to ourselves, letting our actions and works speak for our beliefs and truth. We do not need to try to run ahead of God to achieve our goals, rather we should be running to Him to allow Him to move the mountains and challenges before us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for teaching us through Your word, Your ways. Help me by Your spirit to slow down and patiently wait for You to work. Help me to be slow to speak and generously listen to those around me.

In Jesus name
Amen
