Daily Devotional – The Great Shepherd

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 10:7-15. The Great I am is our protecting and caring shepherd. Jesus loves us so much that he lay down His life to protect us from hell and life separated from our creator.

“Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.”

A good shepherd lays down their life.

Do you know the voice of Jesus your shepherd? When He calls, do you hear and follow the voice of your Father to safety? Our shepherd and protector wants to be a barrier between us and our greatest enemy.

Jesus demonstrated His love and commitment to us by going to the cross. Taking upon Himself our sin, Jesus laid down His life so that we may live and be free. There weren’t any priests willing to do it, and how many have done it since?

Jesus is not just some being with selfish ambition. No, Jesus has our best interests in mind. Let us fine-tune our hearing to the word and voice of God so that we can follow Jesus in the safe zone under His protection.

Let’s Pray

Dear Jesus,

Thank you that You are the faithful and good shepherd. Where You are there is love and protection. I choose to rest in the shadow of You and be close to You today.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
