Daily Devotional – God’s Promises for 2023 #16

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Peter 2:18-25. Jesus committed no sin yet He took upon Himself the burden of all of ours. He took the wrath of God so that we could stand before our creator blameless, being welcomed in.

“Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

22 “He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”[e]

23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,”[f] but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

God promises us righteousness and right standing!

Jesus was beaten and broken for each of us. He did not deserve the harsh treatment that He received, but Jesus endured the anguish for you and I. There is nothing that we can do to deserve the love and sacrifice that Jesus bestowed upon us, we must merely receive in faith.

In the same faith that we receive salvation, we receive righteousness. While it is a gift and honor to find ourselves in the presence of the Almighty, let us heed the words of Paul and follow the example of Jesus!

The promise from our God and Father is that He would not punish us per our deeds. That is the greatest news that anyone could hear. We have the opportunity to be in good standing with our Father for the works of Jesus.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You have given me the greatest gift ever through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. You gave me Yourself and the right to stand before You. Today I do not take my right standing with You likely and endeavor to do good works for Your glory.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
