Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Micah 6:3-8. The sacrifices and offerings from the old covenant never truly satisfied the Almighty. While He accepted them, they never truly filled the void and payment for the sins committed against Him.
“My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened you? Answer me.
4 I brought you up out of Egypt
and redeemed you from the land of slavery.
I sent Moses to lead you,
also Aaron and Miriam.
5 My people, remember
what Balak king of Moab plotted
and what Balaam son of Beor answered.
Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,
that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.”
6 With what shall I come before the Lord
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God.”
God has demonstrated to us and came as Jesus to teach us the ways of the Kingdom. There is no gray area when it comes to what is expected from those who claim to follow the leading of the Almighty. Jesus rebuked the fig tree and it withered up.
God has always been gracious and slow to anger. Initially, the law allowed for the offering of the harvest and efforts of each person. Unsatisfied, God gave up everything and put it all on the line.
God put it all on the line for us, have you done the same? The bare minimum that should be returned in love is the same. Let us throw off all the hindrances and tangling cords of this earth for the glory of God.
Dear Father,
Thank you for Your continued grace and mercy. You gave it all for me, and I reciprocate by giving all of my heart and soul onto Your alter. Be glorified and exalted by my act of love and gratitude.
Amen
