Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 John 4:7-12. God has called us to love each other as ourselves. It may seem like pie in the sky thoughts when we look at the way that people treat each other. God though, has given us the ability to love each other!
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
If you are born of God, then you will love others.
God has given us the example, as the Father He gave up and sacrificed His son. The love of God for His children and creation overcame His laws.

We live in a world that is devoid of love. We celebrate and look forward to Valentine’s Day to celebrate love. So easily we get caught up in the superficial gifts and theatrics. The world is starving for a love that tells them that they are valuable and worth a true sacrifice.
Does God live in you? I am not asking the question, I am asking that you ask yourself the question. John answers you in the scripture with “if we love one another, God lives in us.”
The question I ask you, do you love those around you?

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Father God, that You have given us the example of true love. As our communities think about love and what it means to be loved, fill me with Your love and compassion for others.
