Daily Devotional – God Came For Those Sick Like Me

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 5:27-31. Churches have become a collection of people with similar thoughts, beliefs, backgrounds, and unfortunately even race. While having things in common helps bring us together, God didn’t save us for comfort.

“After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.

29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Once we become too clean, sin becomes invisible!

Jesus came to the earth for everyone that has realized that they are sick and in need of a savior. Our sin of pride doesn’t let us think that we are dirty and in need of Jesus. Pride says that I am good enough and capable of salvation in my own strength.

Society has us all following laws and rules to achieve. From a young age, we have carrots laid out for us as though we will achieve nirvana. The hope within each of us is that perhaps one day “I will achieve”. Hate to break it to you but you will never achieve what you are working so hard toward.

Take this and remember that Jesus came for you! He came for liars, hypocrites, greedy, selfish, and ambitious people like you and me. The characteristics idolized by the world in their heroes are the root sins that drive a wedge between us and God. We need to acknowledge that we are sick and seek out our doctor on the cross.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You secured victory and salvation for all on the cross of Calvary. For all that will acknowledge that we need You, You came to be our savior. I am letting go of my efforts and let You take control!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
