Daily Devotional – Gain Strength From Looking Up

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 28: 10-15. Look up! Look beyond the circumstances that you would see around you and look up beyond the skies to the heavens! Find where your help will come from!

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it[c] stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.

14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.[d] 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

God reminds us to look to Him

Jacob was on the run from his brother. He had stolen the blessing from Isaac and left home with just the shirt on his back. During his time of rest, God grabbed the opportunity to speak with him. Jacob had his focused realigned and recentered up toward heaven!

God reminded Jacob of his lineage and history. The blessing that Jacob received was passed from generation to generation, and God reminded Jacob of His promise to Abraham many years ago. God also spoke to Jacob about a future that he would never see himself upon the earth. It was a promise that included Jacob and would not be possible without his involvement.

To gain strength, we not only need to look back at the times where God has proven to us His abilities. We also need to look up to Him in heaven so that we can let go of the promise. If you feel frustrated and that there is no answer to the promise, perhaps you need to focus your attention on God a little more. As you focus on Him and release the promise, God is empowered to take it over and bring His promise to pass.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for your promises from yesterday. I know that you want to fulfill your words. Today I decide to adjust my focus from the promise to the promise maker. I let go of the things holding me down so that I can hold onto You!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
