Daily Devotional – Forgiveness is a Two Way Street

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Colossians 3:12-17. Have you ever wondered how God will forgive a rapist or murderer that cries out for forgiveness? If you have ever had a loved one stripped away from your grasp, you certainly would have this question for God!

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Forgiveness releases the impossible!

We need to be careful to not categorize sin. I stand before God as a sinner, just as anyone that has sinned against God. It doesn’t matter if the sin toward God was a “little” or a “biggie” a sin is a sin. I stand guilty with blood-stained hands before God. The blood of Jesus is on my hands, just like you and everyone.

Once I have received the forgiveness of God and the Holy Spirit, only then can I begin to live a life that will honor God. Until I have received the Holy Spirit, I can not be lead and prompted before I do anything. The Holy Spirit also convicts me after the fact too.

Jesus instructed us to love and forgive others that do you wrong on this earth. This is for the benefit of each one of us. We will never be able to live in unity as the body of Christ until forgiveness is as much a part of us, as it is for God our Father.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father, that You have first forgiven me. Your forgiveness has created the opportunity to live a life of freedom. Help me to love and forgive those around me so that they can experience freedom too.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
