Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Timothy 1:6-10. Starting the new year is often encouraging and exciting for many of us. While some of us are energized and motivated, some feel overwhelmed by something new and unknown.
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.“
A deer in headlights!
Driving on the highway one early morning before the sun had risen, I could barely make out a shimmering ahead of us. As we got closer I was able to see that the shimmering was from a large deer. The deer was standing, staring at us approaching them. This is where the saying of “deer in headlights”.

There have been many people impacted by the pandemic over the past 12 months. The greatest spiritual impact that has been seen during the pandemic is the level of fear. Fear is the opposite of faith, and God has not given us the spirit of fear.
As God’s children, He has sent His Holy Spirit to comfort and lead us. As we humble ourselves and let the Holy Spirit take lead, God will bring about His fruit in our lives. If we allow God’s free reign over our lives, then He will give us peace and faith. Give your concerns over to God, because He cares for you!

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Father, for giving us Your Holy Spirit. I understand that You have not given me a spirit of fear and I choose to stand in faith on Your word!
