Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Philippians 4:4-9. People who are gripped by fear tend to be grumpy, short-tempered, and aggressive. It is no surprise that all around the world we have seen a rise in confrontations and aggression in the last year.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Don’t be anxious about anything!

Living a life of faith will have us peaceful and content in all situations. We will submit our concerns and desires before God, knowing that He has heard each and every one of them. It takes faith to believe that our prayers, quiet or shouted out are heard by the Almighty Lord.

Since faith is contrary to fear, just the act of prayer is a step in the right direction.

Being anxious for something breeds an uneasy feeling. We fuel our anxiety by the disparity between where we stand and what we want. We get caught up in the destination more than where we stand today and the moment. Instead of living in the provision of God, we want to achieve our own fleshly desires.

Anxiety breeds fear, and fear brings on more anxiety. Our hearts race and our blood boil with anger. We can not act in a loving, compassionate manner when we are in this mental state. 

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have called us to rest in You and Your peace. I cast off all my personal desires and all the anxiety that comes with them. I choose Your burdens and place my faith in You as my loving Father!
