Daily Devotional – Earnestly Seeking Our God

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Deuteronomy 4: 25-31. God has never hidden from His creation. In the garden of Eden, God came looking and searching after Adam and Eve. Scripture is full of examples, of how God has chased His beloved.

After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. 27 The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.

29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. 31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

Honestly, seeking?

God didn’t wait for us to meet His standards, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5: 8. Jesus came and died on your behalf so that you would be clothed in righteous upon God finding you. What a great example of God chasing His beloved.

Jesus laid out in His teachings while upon earth that the new covenant would look beyond the outer, bodily activities. Rather God was concerned about the heart and the motives behind the things that we do. God who is able to see beyond our actions and into our hearts, is looking closely.

God never hides from us. He does not act towards us as any earthly father does. Our heavenly Father created us for a relationship with him. He desires to hold and nurture you, caring for your every need. God has chased after you deliberately. In the same way that you wish for a romantic love to pursue you, God wants to see your earnest intentions and desire to search for Him too.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for chasing after me. You so deliberately went to the cross for me so that I may have righteousness. I now seek after you with a pure intention and desire, to see You more closely.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
