Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. Living in the modern world, we have increased productivity but our time is more consumed than ever before. Yes, we can achieve much more today than our fathers and their fathers.
“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.”
We become accustomed to everything being ready when we want it. When going to a restaurant, we complain if the food takes too long to come out. If the line at the supermarket is longer than 2 people, we are fuming and stomping around asking why there are no more check-outs open.
Living life at this speed we have created a culture of impatience. In every aspect of our lives, we struggle to sit still or wait. People are constantly feeding and stimulating their minds and emotions. Watch people in public. Within seconds of them coming to a stop, they have their cellphones out to do a lot of nothing.
Since impatience has infiltrated every part of our life, our relationship with God our Father has not been impacted too. Let us remember that no matter the speed that people run at, God is still working His plans and will together at His speed. There is a perfect time to see God fulfill His words and promises! So let us patiently wait and just enjoy God’s marvelous presence.
Dear Father,
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
