Daily Devotional – Day 1 of Christmas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 1:34-38. God sent His messenger to Mary. Mary was chosen to carry the Messiah in her womb. This year, God is sending His messenger with a message, are you ready for it?

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”

May your word be fulfilled!

How can I see the fulfillment of God’s calling? So often we limit God and His fulfillment by our ideas or perceptions. Using our natural eyes or laws, we expect God to work in a particular way. Like Mary, I have often wondered how God will bring about His word and plans in my life.

The angel reminded Mary that it was not because of her activity, but because of God’s Holy Spirit. Our reminder this Christmas season is that it is not our might or strength. It is not our plans or busyness that will bring about God’s plans in our lives. By the Holy Spirit and in God’s time He will bring about His words and promises.

May we focus our eyes on Jesus our savior this season and lose focus on the things of this world. Our savior was born unto us and only by His birth, could He fulfill God’s plans.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You were born to Mary. You came as the ultimate messenger, God among us to show us how to live and forgive. I hear Your words and Your calling, and I continue to focus on You.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
