Daily Devotional – Convicted and Killed for You

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 19:1-7. Little did the Jewish leaders know, their claim that Jesus would fulfill the law was more accurate than they knew.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.

Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.” When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”

As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”

But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”

The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”

The sacrifice that fulfilled all of the law

Convicted although He stood before Pilate and the Jewish leaders innocent. No one could proclaim any justifiable reason to convict Jesus of anything never less a conviction worthy of death.

The indictment though from the throne of God was the sin of all mankind. Jesus was not convicted by the rulers of men, but He gave His life willingly as a sacrificial lamb for His creation.

When we follow the word of God, we know that the price for sin is the outpouring of blood. For many years God was appeased with the temporary sacrifice but now Jesus would settle the charge forever.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that Jesus was born to fulfill the law and die. As I remember His sacrifice today, I revel in the freedom that He paid for.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
