Daily Devotional – Come as You Are

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Timothy 4:1-8. Why do so many preachers of the Christian faith speak about a soft gospel all about abundance and blessing? Could the church be the reason that many speak of these opinions?

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Are you thirsty for more?

Throughout the Old Testament, and from the lips of Jesus, God has been warning us of the human element. It is clearly evident in society today that humans desire to have their thirst for abundance satisfied. Not happy with the provisions of God, we want more of an easy life.

Those seeking power will happily tell us what we want to hear in order to garner our support. Their opinions will be shaped by the audience so that they can satisfy their desires.

God has called us to approach Him as we are, imperfect and broken. Let us not seek to fill ourselves and invite those that so willingly will betray us. God our creator and Lord will lead us if we humble ourselves before Him.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You are my source and life. Without You I have nothing! I submit myself to You and Your ways today no matter how hard they may seem initially.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
