Daily Devotional – Call Back to Worship

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Malachi 1: 6-11God has called for His people to close the doors to the temple and cancel the sacrifices. He told the Israelites to not bother with their half-hearted efforts and sacrifices. He would have nothing to do with it and the lack of emotion behind the worship.

“A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty.

“It is you priests who show contempt for my name.

“But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’

“By offering defiled food on my altar.

“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’

“By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the Lord Almighty.

“Now plead with God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?”—says the Lord Almighty.

10 “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept no offering from your hands. 11 My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord Almighty.”

Have you ever received a regifted gift? What’s worse, have you ever received a regifted gift that you gave the person that was regifting it?

Receiving a second hand or gift that was not selected just for you can certainly dampen the elation of receiving the gift. The time that I caught someone regifting my gift to them, certainly left me feeling disheartened and sad. I had put thought and effort into the selection of a gift. I thought that the receiver would have much use of the gift and that they would appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift.

The hollow emotional sense that I was left with when they gave that gift to me can not be easily summed up. How do you think God receives your worship? Does your worship sound like clanging pots and pans that lack a depth of emotion?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

As the Most High God, You deserve the highest honor and praise available. You deserve worship and praise that goes beyond our town, city, and nation. I cry out asking forgiveness and asking that You accept my heartfelt worship as worthy of You. Worthy are You the Lord Almighty!

In Jesus’ name, Amen
