Daily Devotional – 5th Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 1:11-18. This Christmas season we can live confident and certain of victory. The birth of Jesus is the testament and sure thing to place our faith and hope in.

“Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

Reminding ourselves of the miracle of Christmas

The angels, messengers of the Almighty, came to earth to share the exciting news. They spoke of the great miracles happening and the hope that lay ahead for God’s people.

God was up to something, and most importantly, God was drawing His people back to Him. He sent His message and messenger before Jesus. Preparing the way, God never overlooked a single detail.

Like Zechariah, it is so easy to find ourselves questioning God and His actions. God may not be as active as we would like or perhaps He is keeping life on the edge.

Let us stand firm in faith and God’s first move. He sent Jesus to die all those years ago to prepare the way for us. With it all completed, we confidently are sure!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father for making the first move and laying the foundation for our faith and salvation. The birth of Your son was the greatest gift that You could ever give humanity. I will celebrate the birth of Jesus today and all season long!

In Your Name,

Amen
