Daily Devotional – 2nd Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 1:1-13. Jesus was before all and continued to lead all. Although He lay in the manger as a helpless infant, He still held the world within the palm of His hand.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

He came into the world un-noticed

As a baby, the creator of the world lay there calmly and peacefully. The next contradiction of the Christmas story. As the one who created the rules, God could have come upon the earth with roaring fire at any point in history.

Rather than a grand entrance, the saviour and Lord of all entered the scene under the radar. With all the prophecies and signs, you would have thought that the creation would notice and acknowledge their creator.

Jesus came not to meet the sinful needs of His creation, but He came to give Himself on the cross. Coming in with bright lights and a show would leave people compelled to worship and praise the name of the Lord. God wants us to freely bend our knees before the manger and throne.

Let us keep our ears ready to hear the call of our Lord and God. We can celebrate today that Jesus was born to die for us!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you for sending Jesus peacefully and quietly to this earth. I have heard Your voice and I draw nearer to You to take You in. I love You with all that I have today and forever!

In Your Name,

Amen
