Daily Devotional – 1st Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 7:10-17. Nothing that God does is ever by chance or mistake. Everything is planned out, purposefully done, and ties together in line with the bigger picture.

“Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.”

13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you[c] a sign: The virgin[d] will conceive and give birth to a son, and[e] will call him Immanuel.[f] 15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, 16 for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste. 17 The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.”

What a paradoxical thing, a virgin mother!

Mary, the virgin mother is not only a contradictory statement, but ties into the purity demanded by God. We all know that a virgin could not bear a child, but neither can anyone of us achieve the purity required by God. Jesus, the son of God was pure and perfect and the virgin mother was the perfect depiction of this.

Many years before Jesus would find His way on earth as a human, He foretold His people that He would come. For those that are willing to, and are listening, God is always talking!

As we consider the Christ-mas season this year, on the first day of Christmas, consider the purity of the baby born to us. We may never experience the purity and sinless life as Jesus, but we do not need to. Jesus did it all for us!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are always using events and signs to speak to us. Help me to hear You today in all the ways that You are whispering to me.

In Your Name,

Amen
