Croquet has been a longstanding tradition at the Empress Hotel, since the early 20th Century. Women and men, couples and families would head outside to the hotel’s iconic manicured gardens and greens for a friendly game of wickets. Giving an old game a new twist, Croquet at the Empress is back, and it’s better than ever.
On August 26, 2018, a well-heeled gathering will take place at Fairmont Empress, with a beloved game making its elegant comeback at Victoria’s most iconic property.
Imagine a social affair on the front lawns of Fairmont Empress, with green well-manicured grass and flowers in bloom – a civilized Croquet tournament, an intriguing step-and-repeat media wall for selfies, lounge furniture, culinary delights and craft cocktails on the social lawn for an afternoon tête-à-tête, summer games of a bygone era, and guests who arrive dressed to impress.

Master of Ceremonies is the dapper Joe Perkins of CTV Vancouver Island. Tournament organized by Pierre Dunn and CP Lawn Bowling Club. Sponsored by CTV, Kool FM, CFAX and Pimm’s.
The only three fashion essentials for a croquet game are lawn-friendly shoes, a hat to shade your eyes, and snappy attire. While some will come dressed all in white, many will arrive in brights, pastels, floral and tweed. Footwear should be flats, sandals or wedges – no heels on the croquet lawns please. It is true! There are few other instances in sports where the dressing room rivals the playing field. But in croquet, competitors and spectators alike are paying as much attention to your hemlines as they do to your game technique. In croquet, accessories make the player!
