A Beautiful Mother’s Day

By Jackie Silver –

The tradition of honoring and celebrating motherhood can be traced back to ancient roots. Modern-day Mother’s Day began with a proclamation by poet and activist Julia Ward Howe from New York City in 1870. To look and feel your best for Mother’s Day, here are some tips to help you rejuvenate and refresh. Do these on Saturday and you’ll be ready for your special day on Sunday.

1) Manicure/pedicure. If you have the time on Saturday, pop into one of those walk-in, no-appointment-needed nail salons and treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure. Try something bright for your toes and opt for a nice spring pink for your hands. If you don’t have the time or budget for a salon, take some time out to at least polish your own nails. Polishing your toes is a little trickier, but you can cover up your feet with closed shoes if need be.

2) Try a workout. Plan ahead for those extra Mother’s Day Buffet calories by exercising the day before. You’ll have a guilt-free Sunday if you burn those calories in advance on Saturday.

3) Get your beauty rest. Turning in a little earlier on Saturday night and getting your eight hours of sleep can do wonders for your face – and your attitude – on Sunday. If possible, try to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your stomach can leave you with puffy eyes. Here are two quick remedies for puffy eyes that you can try on Sunday morning to ensure you look fresh for Mother’s Day: Dip a soft cloth in cold water, wring it out and gently cover your eyes. When the cloth warms up, dip and wring out again. Repeat for ten minutes. It may seem like an old wives’ tale, but cucumbers actually do relieve puffy eyes. Cool a cuke in the fridge, then cut into slices and cover each eye with a cucumber slice.

A little prep on Saturday can help add plenty of enjoyment to your special Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day!
